About the book The Horror at Camp Jellyjam

The Horror at Camp Jellyjam by R.L. Stine is a creepy and thrilling tale from the popular Goosebumps series. It tells the story of a brother and sister, Wendy and Elliot, who find themselves stuck in a strange and spooky summer camp where things are not as fun as they first seem. The story begins when their family is on vacation. Wendy and Elliot are riding in a trailer, which breaks loose from the car and rolls away. When it stops, they find themselves near Camp Jellyjam, a camp that appears to be focused on sports and winning medals. At first, it all seems exciting — kids play games all day, and winners get gold King Coins. But Wendy quickly starts to notice that something is very wrong. There are no parents or adults around, except for the counselors, who are a little too serious about winning. The kids chant, “Only the best,” and anyone who doesn’t win seems to go missing. The smell in the air is strange. The rules are strict. And worst of all, no one wants to talk about what’s really happening when night falls. Elliot becomes obsessed with winning medals, while Wendy gets more and more suspicious. Her worries grow when her new friends disappear one by one after collecting six King Coins. When Wendy tries to get answers, she’s met with silence or fear. Soon, she discovers a horrifying truth: deep beneath the camp, in a dark and wet underground tunnel, lives a giant, disgusting creature named King Jellyjam — a slimy monster that controls the camp. The counselors are actually serving this monster, and the missing children are being forced to clean up the ooze he gives off. The monster only wants the strongest kids, and he uses the camp games to find them. But Wendy doesn’t give up. With courage and quick thinking, she manages to free the trapped kids and destroy the creature in a very unexpected and clever way. Stine builds the horror slowly in this book, starting with small things that feel “off” and ending with a full-on monster scare. The way he mixes fun camp activities with real danger keeps you turning the pages. Like all Goosebumps stories, it’s scary, but not too dark — perfect for young readers who love spooky stuff. Wendy’s bravery and care for her brother give the story heart. Even though she's scared, she never stops trying to protect him and do what’s right. And that’s what really makes this story stand out — it’s not just about monsters, it’s about being brave when it matters most.
