Sunny was a squirrel with a bushy tail and the best acorn finder in the whole meadow. Every morning, Sunny searched for food to store in her little nest high up in the tallest tree. She loved to chatter with Sparky, the bright red cardinal who sang songs from dawn to dusk. Sparky loved flying from tree to tree, looking for shiny things to decorate his nest.
One day, while Sunny and Sparky played by the stream, they noticed something strange. The ground rumbled beneath their tiny feet. Sunny looked at Sparky, wide-eyed. “Did you feel that?”
“Yes!” Sparky chirped, flapping his wings nervously. “It’s coming from over there!” He pointed his wing toward the thick bushes that marked the edge of the forest.
Sunny and Sparky peeked through the leaves and saw something unbelievable. Right in front of them stood a giant garden, filled with vegetables bigger than anything they had ever seen. Carrots as tall as trees, tomatoes the size of boulders, and pumpkins so huge they could have been houses. The garden seemed magical, full of bright colors and sweet smells.
“It’s beautiful!” Sunny squeaked.
“But who made it?” Sparky wondered.
Suddenly, a loud voice boomed. “Who’s been nibbling my lettuce?”
Sunny and Sparky ducked behind the bushes as a giant appeared. He was tall, with scruffy hair and a big, grumpy face. His name was Goliath, and he was known to scare off anyone who got too close to his garden. He didn’t like sharing.
“This is Goliath’s garden!” whispered Sparky. “We need to be careful!”
Just then, a young boy named David walked down the path, carrying a basket. David was kind and clever, always ready to help anyone in the village. He lived with his grandmother, who loved making pies, especially pumpkin pies. But lately, their garden had no pumpkins left, and David knew he had to find some for her special pie.
David saw the giant’s garden and couldn’t believe his eyes. “Wow! These pumpkins are perfect!” he said, looking at one as big as a wagon.
Sunny and Sparky rushed over to David. “Be careful!” Sunny chattered. “That’s Goliath’s garden!”
David smiled. “Thank you for the warning, Sunny. But I have to get a pumpkin for my grandmother. She needs it for her pie.”
David stepped into the garden, and the ground shook again. Goliath stomped closer, his giant footsteps shaking the earth. “Who’s that in my garden?” Goliath roared.
David stood tall, even though he felt a little scared. “Hello, Mr. Goliath. I’m David. My grandmother needs a pumpkin, and I thought maybe I could trade with you.”
Goliath frowned, scratching his head. “Trade? What can you possibly have that I would want?”
David looked around. He noticed Goliath’s sad eyes and the way he held his watering can as if it was the only thing he cared about. “I can help you take care of your garden. It must be hard to do it all alone.”
Goliath’s frown softened a little. “Well, it is a big garden, and I do get tired sometimes.”
Sunny and Sparky watched closely. They had never seen Goliath look anything but grumpy.
David smiled. “I’m good at fixing things. I can help build a fence to keep the rabbits out, and Sunny here can find the best spots to plant new seeds. Sparky can keep the birds away from your berries.”
Goliath thought about it. “You’d all help me?”
David nodded. “Yes, but in return, you share some of your vegetables with the village. Everyone is hungry, and your garden could feed so many.”
Goliath looked around at his garden, then at David, Sunny, and Sparky. He sighed and then grinned. “All right, you’ve got yourself a deal.”
From that day on, David, Sunny, and Sparky worked with Goliath. The garden became even more beautiful, with flowers and vegetables growing everywhere. Goliath wasn’t grumpy anymore. He laughed as David helped him build a new scarecrow, and he enjoyed Sunny’s company as she found the best spots to plant new seeds. Sparky sang songs that made the garden feel even more magical.
The villagers were amazed when David brought home the biggest pumpkin they had ever seen. David’s grandmother baked pies for everyone, and they all celebrated together.
And Goliath? He found that sharing his garden made him happier than he ever thought possible. He wasn’t just the giant with the big garden anymore. He was their friend.
David looked at Goliath and smiled. “I told you we’d make a great team.”
Goliath chuckled. “You were right, little hero.”
And from then on, Goliath’s garden was never empty, and neither were the hearts of his new friends.
