The Flying Fish
00:00 / 04:02

One quiet morning in the deep blue sea, all the fish were busy. Little crabs crawled on the sand, looking for tasty bits. Shiny bubbles popped up from the rocks, and tiny fish swam in circles. Near a tall seaweed forest, Finn the Fish’s friends were playing. Finn was a small, silver fish with wings like a butterfly. But these weren’t regular wings—they helped him fly above the water!

Finn’s best friends, Daisy the Dolphin and Gabby the Seagull, were chatting nearby.

“Finn, want to play hide-and-seek?” asked Daisy, splashing playfully.

Finn wiggled his tail. “Not today. I have been thinking...”

Gabby tilted her head. “Thinking about what?”

Finn looked up at the water's surface. “I want to see the world above the ocean. I want to fly higher than I’ve ever flown!”

Daisy smiled. “That sounds fun, but the ocean is full of fun things too. Why do you want to go up there?”

Finn looked at the bright sunlight shining through the water. “I just want to see what’s beyond the waves. I want to meet new friends!”

Gabby flapped her wings. “I fly up there all the time. There are big clouds, tall trees, and even more animals! But it’s not always safe.”

Finn nodded, feeling excited but a little nervous. “I’ll be careful. I’ll only go for a little bit.”

Finn swam up to the surface and took a big leap out of the water. With a flap of his wings, he soared into the sky. For a moment, everything felt different. The wind blew against his scales, and he could see the whole ocean below.

“Wow! This is amazing!” Finn said to himself, gliding over the waves. He saw the sun, bright and warm, and heard the soft calls of seagulls flying nearby. Finn spotted Gabby flying close.

“Hi, Finn!” Gabby called. “You’re doing great!”

But then, Finn spotted something new. It was a small island with tall, swaying trees. Birds were singing, and little crabs were walking on the sandy beach. Finn had never seen anything like it!

He flew closer and saw a group of children playing by the shore. One of them looked up and pointed. “Look, a flying fish!”

Finn’s heart raced. No one had ever seen him like this before. He felt special.

Just then, Finn noticed a big wave coming. It splashed up high, and Finn got caught in the spray. He lost his balance and fell back into the water with a splash.

Daisy swam up to him quickly. “Finn, are you okay?”

Finn laughed. “I’m fine! That was fun, but it’s harder than it looks.”

Gabby flew down and landed on a rock. “See? Flying is fun, but you have to be careful.”

Finn nodded, thinking about his adventure. “I met new friends and saw new things. But I think I like being in the ocean too. It’s safe and familiar.”

Daisy smiled. “We can always explore together, Finn. There’s so much to see down here.”

Gabby added, “And whenever you want to fly again, just let me know. I’ll show you all my favorite spots.”

Finn felt happy. He loved his friends, and he loved his home. “Thanks, Gabby. Thanks, Daisy. I’m glad I tried something new.”

As the sun began to set, Finn, Daisy, and Gabby played games in the water. The ocean turned a soft pink, and little bubbles floated up like tiny balloons. Finn looked up one last time at the sky.

“Maybe I’ll fly again tomorrow,” he said, smiling.

Daisy giggled. “And we’ll be right here, ready for another adventure.”

Finn felt calm and content. He learned that exploring was fun, but coming back home to friends was the best part of all.

And as the waves gently rocked him to sleep, Finn dreamed of all the places he’d explore—above and below the water—knowing that his friends would always be there when he returned.
