The Lazy Donkey
00:00 / 04:17

Danny the Donkey stretched lazily in the shade of a large banyan tree. His big ears twitched as he heard the farmer’s calls from the field. “Danny, come help me with the cart!” the farmer shouted.

Danny yawned and rolled over. “Too hot to work,” he muttered. “I’ll just take a nap.”

The farmer, sweating under the sun, tugged at the heavy cart loaded with crops. The wheels creaked and groaned as he struggled to pull it up the slope. Danny watched from his cozy spot, feeling glad he wasn’t the one working.

Later that day, the farmer came back to the barn, looking tired. “Danny,” he said, “I need your help to carry these bags to the market. They’re very heavy.”

Danny’s eyes drooped. “I’m too tired. Maybe later,” he replied, trying to find a comfortable position on his pile of hay.

The farmer sighed and went on his way alone. Danny dozed off, enjoying his rest.

The next morning, Danny’s friend, Moti the Mule, came trotting by. “Hey, Danny! You’re not working again?”

Danny shook his head. “It’s so boring. Why should I work when I can rest?”

Moti frowned. “The farmer relies on us. If we don’t help, things could go wrong.”

Danny just shrugged. “Not my problem.”

The day went by, and the farmer’s work piled up. The crops were left in the field, and the market delivery was delayed. The farmer was worried and didn’t know how to manage everything alone.

That evening, a storm rolled in. Dark clouds covered the sky, and rain started pouring down heavily. Danny was still lounging in the barn, dry and cozy. But outside, the farmer’s crops were getting soaked and ruined.

The farmer rushed to cover the crops with tarps, but he couldn’t do it all by himself. “If only Danny had helped,” he thought sadly.

When the storm finally stopped, the farmer came into the barn, looking more tired than ever. “Danny,” he said firmly, “because you didn’t help, we lost a lot of our crops. Now we have to fix everything.”

Danny’s ears drooped as he saw the farmer’s tired face. He felt a pang of guilt. “I’m sorry, Farmer. I should have helped.”

The farmer sighed. “It’s not just about saying sorry. It’s about working together.”

Danny thought about what Moti had said. He realized that his laziness had caused trouble for the farmer and himself.

The next morning, Danny woke up early. He found the farmer already working hard to clean up the mess. Danny trotted over, determined to make things right.

“I’m ready to help,” Danny announced, his voice full of new-found resolve.

The farmer looked surprised but smiled. “Thank you, Danny. We’ve got a lot of work to do.”

Danny helped carry bags, clean up the field, and fix the broken cart. The work was hard, but he felt good knowing he was contributing.

As the days passed, Danny continued to work with the farmer. He learned that working hard made everything easier and more enjoyable. The farmer’s crops were safe, and the market deliveries were on time.

One day, Moti came by again and saw Danny working alongside the farmer. “Wow, Danny! You’re working hard now!”

Danny smiled. “I’ve learned that helping is important. It’s much better than being lazy.”

Moti nodded. “Good for you, Danny. It’s always better to work together.”

And so, Danny the Donkey became known as the hardest-working donkey on the farm. He learned that hard work and helping others were more rewarding than any nap could ever be.

The farmer was happy to have Danny’s help, and the farm thrived. Danny’s laziness was a thing of the past, and he enjoyed every bit of his work.
