It was a regular Tuesday morning on the Patel family farm. The sun was just beginning to peek over the horizon, casting a golden glow across the fields.
In the barn, Rani the cow was munching on her breakfast hay. “Morning, Rocky!” she mooed.
Rocky the Rooster, however, was not in the mood to respond. He was sprawled out on his perch, eyes half-closed. “Mmm, not yet, Rani,” he grumbled, “just five more minutes.”
Outside, the other animals were already up and about. Mithu the parrot was fluttering from branch to branch, chirping cheerfully. “What’s up, Rocky? Aren’t you going to crow today?”
“Yeah, yeah,” Rocky mumbled, turning away. “I’ll get to it soon.”
By now, Babu the goat had joined the group. “Come on, Rocky! The sun’s already up. It’s not like you to be so lazy.”
Rocky waved a wing dismissively. “Relax, guys. The sun isn’t going anywhere.”
But as the minutes ticked by, the sky turned a bright blue, and the morning sun climbed higher. The farm animals started to get worried. “Rocky always crows right at sunrise,” Mithu said, “Something must be wrong!”
Rani looked concerned. “What if something happened to him? We should check on him.”
They all trotted over to Rocky’s perch. Rani knocked gently. “Rocky, wake up! It’s getting late!”
Rocky slowly opened one eye. “What’s the big deal? It’s just a bit past sunrise.”
Just then, Farmer Patel walked into the barn. “What’s this? Why is Rocky still asleep? I’ve been waiting for his crow to start the day’s work.”
The animals all looked at Rocky, who was now feeling a bit embarrassed. “Sorry, Farmer Patel. I just... I overslept.”
Farmer Patel shook his head. “Rocky, you know how important your crow is. It helps me know when to start working on the fields. Without it, everything’s delayed.”
Rocky felt a pang of guilt. “I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.”
Farmer Patel smiled kindly. “Well, it’s not the end of the world, but it does mean I have to start my day later. And that affects everyone on the farm.”
Rocky sighed. “I guess I should have set an alarm or something.”
The animals nodded in agreement. “We all rely on you, Rocky. You’ve got a big responsibility,” Babu said.
Rocky flapped his wings in determination. “Alright, from now on, I’ll make sure to wake up early. I promise!”
The rest of the day went on, and Rocky made sure to crow on time the next morning. He even set up a little rooster alarm made out of a bell. It rang just before sunrise, making sure he was up and ready.
The farm animals were relieved and happy. “Good job, Rocky!” Rani said. “See? It’s not so hard to be punctual.”
Mithu and Babu cheered. “You did it! And look, everything’s running smoothly again.”
Rocky felt proud. “Thanks for sticking by me. I’ve learned my lesson—being lazy isn’t worth it.”
And so, Rocky continued to be the reliable rooster everyone needed. The farm ran like clockwork, and Rocky never missed another sunrise.
The moral of the story? Laziness might seem harmless, but it can have bigger impacts than we think. Being responsible is key to keeping everything in balance.
