In a quiet village, twelve sisters, each named after a month of the year, lived in a large, cheerful castle. January, the eldest, was wise and kind. February was full of laughter and jokes, while March loved to sing and dance. The others, all the way down to December, the youngest, who was curious and brave, each had their unique charm.

Every morning, the sisters would wake up very tired, their shoes worn out as if they had danced all night. The king, their father, was baffled. "Who can uncover where my daughters go each night?" he wondered aloud during breakfast.
